Pilates Classes

Posture and Movement Analyses
An effective Pilates training starts with a Posture and Movement Analyses, which will help us identify your specific needs. Every person’s posture, strength and weaknesses are different and therefore it is essential to have a proper assessment. It will also help you to understand the basic principles of Pilates. In addition, injuries, special pre-cautions and rehabilitation are discussed. This assessment takes approximately 1h15. After the analysis, you can decide whether a class or personal training sessions would best suit your training needs.

On the Mat
Mat is the foundation for the Pilates Method. It is from Mat that the rest of the apparatus work is based. Quality before quantity is one of the main principles in the Pilates method and attending to precise details helps you to do the exercise correctly. In practice this means that we don't do many repetitions of each exercise, but we concentrate on doing each one correctly. Correct breathing will help to centre the body and connect you to your deepest abdominal muscles. Your core muscles will get stronger and help prevent back problems by providing the necessary stability.

You can choose different levels of mat classes (beginner and intermediate). I also offer a specific class only for men.

On the Ball
I use different equipment in my classes; the ball is one popular choice. During a Pilates session, the ball will add resistance and will challenge the body in different ways. The ball enhances your workout because it is a mobile surface. The instability of the ball will recruit both the deep and superficial muscle fibres. After a 1 hour workout, we end the session with stretching.

On the Bosu
The Bosu is a half-shaped ball, filled with air and is one of the most recent piece of pilates equipment to be invented. It means: “Both sides up” and this is exactly what we will do. Working on the front, back and side of the Bosu makes the workout difficult and more muscles must keep your body in the center position. It is designed to integrate balance, which is the foundation of all strength and movement.

Reformer

The Reformer is a unique and versatile apparatus and was invented by Joseph Pilates himself. Different springs give either more strength or add stability. Because of its horizontal and higher position, this equipment is perfect for the patient in rehabilitation or for the elderly. I use the reformer exclusively in the personal training sessions.

Other equipment which will be used are:

  • Theraband
  • Foam Roller
  • Wobble Disc
  • Gymstick

Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor muscles are situated deep within our body and often we are not even aware that they exist. Weak pelvic floor muscles can cause stress incontinence and lower back pain. This class will help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles by using Pilates method.

Personal Training
Your personal training session is one-to-one training for one hour. The programme will be tailored to your specific needs. Regardless of whether you want to lose weight, gain strength or increase your flexibility, your exercise routine can be tailored to address your problem area. Many clients, for example, choose to start their pilates training with a 5-10 session package. This helps understand all the Pilates principles (neutral pelvis, lateral breathing, transverse abdominal connection etc.) and therefore maximises the results from the Pilates workout. I also create a motivating and fun environment to encourage you along your way to enhanced fitness and health.
